The Outside Read team is in charge of unifying our content platforms and creating new digital experiences to inspire users to get outside. As a Software Engineer II, you’ll help evolve our editorial web applications to a headless React frontend (such as Outside Online, Yoga Journal, Backpacker, and many more). You will work with senior engineers and cross-functional partners across Outside to learn, iterate and shape the direction of the product over time.

What you will do:

  • Collaborate with Product, Design, and other Engineering teams members on a cross-functional team.
  • Design and implement ways to bring our data and technology into other applications within the Outside network.
  • Build and maintain new connections using our federated GraphQL API.
  • Create and re-write front end functionality in React.
  • Be comfortable working with our legacy WordPress front ends to fix bugs, understand functionality and write tests
  • Help solve engineering challenges and assist with our decision-making process on the most relevant technical solutions for complex business problems.
  • Work in two week agile sprints including sprint planning, refinement and retrospective ceremonies.

This describes you:

  • You bring 3+ years experience in web development or software engineering
  • Proficiency in React and NextJS
  • Experience in implementing a fully functional UI from Figma designs
  • Provides input into story sizing, backlog refinement, and sprint planning.
  • Contributes to product and solution designs to address critical issues and complex problems.
  • You have excellent organizational, problem solving, coding, unit testing and debugging skills.
  • You have experience working in development cycles and collaborating with team members from design to implementation.
  • You have an understanding of the full stack of components required to run an application
  • You are committed to learning and expanding your professional and technical knowledge.
  • You consistently exhibit a positive attitude and desire to help your team succeed.

Nice to have:

  • Development experience with micro-frontends and/or Highly Performant Headless CMS Sites
  • Experience developing or using a GraphQL API
  • Working experience with Agile/Scrum development methodology
  • WordPress experience
  • Working experience with legacy codebases and navigation between new technologies and old

Entirely Remote Jobs: Employees can expect to be paid a base salary between $110,000 to $130,000. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission. Other benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, Flexible Time Away, sick leave, and many more. The salary range displayed is specifically for those potential hires who will work or reside in the state of Colorado if selected for this role, and may vary based on market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
