Outside is looking for a multitalented research editor to join the cross-platform editorial team at Outside Magazine and Outside Online. At Outside, fact-checking is an integral part of the editorial process: our fact-checkers reengineer our writers’ reporting to make sure it’s fair and accurate, and often have a significant voice in the story’s editing process.
This role will entail overseeing our fact-checking and research processes, developing and maintaining our stable of freelance fact-checkers, and working with fact checkers, editors, writers, and sources to ensure the accuracy of our award-winning longform feature writing. You will also help fact-check print and digital features yourself as needed.
In addition, this editor will write and report news and other types of stories for Outside Online and Outside magazine, including compiling our monthly online roundup of what editors are watching and reading; attend daily online news meetings, biweekly online channel meetings, and monthly feature story meetings; contribute writing, editing, and research to the Travel, Culture, and Adventure channels.
If you’re new to the outdoor world but passionate about the topics we cover, please don’t hesitate to apply. The ideal candidate is someone with a few years of journalism experience at a local or national level and a passion for outdoor sports and environmental issues—or a willingness to immerse themselves in the subject matter.
