Gear reviews are among our most popular content, and we want you to help us create more of it, across all platforms, but especially for our website to help boost overall engagement and membership growth. You’ll scour the industry far and wide to find both the most innovative and the most accessible new products to deliver the most useful packing advice for our audience.You’ll write, assign, edit and produce gear reviews and track their performance.

The ideal candidate has an insatiable passion for outdoor experiences and a true desire to provide good advice for core backpackers and for those who are curious how to get started. This position requires a high level of organization, attention to detail, the ability to thrive while multitasking under tight deadlines. Familiarity with InDesign, Wordpress, Google Analytics, and Parse.ly are very strong bonuses.

Responsibilities

  • Conceive, develop, assign, write, edit, and produce gear content across print and digital platforms.
  • Help Backpacker.com reach its aggressive post frequency goals
  • Assist in the brainstorming and execution of Backpacker’s best-in-class annual gear guide
  • Learn, adhere to, and iterate Backpacker’s gear testing protocols
  • Optimize content for SEO (whether its on-page headlines, meta titles, slugs, or body copy, you know what the page needs to rank in Google.)
  • Build digital stories in the CMS
  • Communicate with a large pool of gear testers and cultivating relationships to build a more diverse test team.
  • Manage the receiving and returning workflow around all gear samples.

Qualifications

  • BS/BA in journalism, communications, english or another relevant degree
  • Excellent writing and editing skills across all media platforms
  • A passion for in writing and editing about outdoor gear and adventure sports
  • Excellent time-management skills and the ability to navigate and prioritize competing demands
  • Ability to multitask and communicate effectively

Entirely remote jobs that could be performed in Colorado: Employees can expect to be paid a salary of between $45,000 to $55,000. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission .
